Mercedes Benz – A List of Unforgettable Vintage Cars
1980 - 1989
The cars from 1980 to 1989 are renowned for being the icons of that time. Some people still own them and join multiple vintage car shows to show them off to other car enthusiasts. Today, this blog will take you on a journey through time in the world of classical Mercedes Benz cars.
1980 - Mercedes-Benz 450SLC
Let us start with the history of the Mercedes Benz C107 450 SLC. This revolutionary vehicle came to the streets in 1980 with a 4-speed automatic transmission gearbox, 90 L fuel capacity, and 179 kW horsepower. The speed of this amazing car could go up to 225 km/h. Not to mention the two-tone design appealed greatly to the eye. One thing that is quite different from today is that this car only had two seats. One for the driver and the other one for the passenger. Nowadays, most vehicles can come with at least 5 seats. However, there are some exceptions to this rule. The steady coil springs, double wishbone, and anti-roll bar front suspension ensured a safe and smooth driving experience.
1983 - Mercedes-Benz 240D
Mercedes Benz 240 D was launched in 1983. Soon it became a sensation of the roads. It had four doors and 5 seats. Its attractive design and outstanding internal features captured the hearts of people in no time. The 4-speed manual transmission, 500 L boot capacity, and RWD are everything one could ask for at that time. The top speed was only 143 km/h. It was less than the 450 SLC. Perhaps it had something to do with the increase in passenger seats.
1984 - Mercedes-Benz 380SL

The speed of this 4 seater car could go up to 205 km/h. This car ran on petrol with a fuel capacity of 90 Liters. This car had a unique design that soon became the talk of the town. Its seats were comfortable and the look was quite attractive. Many young people got caught by its cool appearance. There was just one drawback. There were only 2 doors for 4 seats. So, it was kind of awkward to get to the rear seats especially when there was a roof on the head. Some models that did not have a roof were easier for youngsters to get on, but still not sophisticated enough for older people.

1985 - Mercedes-Benz 500SEC
If you talk about style, it is hard not to mention this 1985 Mercedes Benz 500 SEC. Its 4-speed automatic transmission gearbox was perfect for transmitting the power to the road. It consumed nearly 12 liters of petrol for every 100-kilometers. The excellent front and rear suspension with coil springs kept the car going on the road in a steady manner. Going alone on a secluded road at high speed was never an issue with this car. It supported the top speed of 230 km/h. The 510 L trunk capacity made everything even better. This RWD car offered a good balance and stability on the road. It was easy to handle while driving. The only poor thing about them is that RWD is not suitable for places where it rains and snows for half a year. Such vehicles are prone to loss of traction on wet and slippery roads.
1986 - Mercedes-Benz 190E

1986 came with the good news of the launch of a new model of Mercedes Benz 190E (W201). This car had a remarkable engine that could produce a power of 122 PS and offered a torque of 177 Nm. There was an improvement in the transmission of the car. It had a 5-speed manual transmission that made the rides even more fun than before. Its fuel capacity of 55-liters was lesser than the previous cars. There were finally 4 doors for people to sit in the back passenger seats with dignity. This model was much more fuel-efficient than the previous ones. This car consumed 5.8 liters of petrol for every 100km.

1987 - Mercedes-Benz 560SL
Mercedez Benz 560SL caught the eyes of the spectators as soon as it was launched. It was the attractive exterior and interior design that truly caught their attention. Many of its internal features also turned out to be quite impressive. This car offered a horsepower of 230 PS to keep the ride safe and smooth. The speed could rise up to 240 km/h which is very impressive for that time. Once again there was this issue of 4 seats and 2 doors that made this car more attractive to the young than the old. The independent, anti-roll bar and McPherson front suspension worked along with the semi-trailing arm, trailing arm, and anti-roll bar rear suspension to keep the car smooth and steady.
1989 - Mercedes-Benz 300SE

The Mercedez Benz 300 SE of 1989 is all one could ask for. The inline 6 engine type with 5-speed manual transmission made it pretty easy for the driver to gain full control over the vehicle. It provided a maximum torque of 225 Nm with an exceptional horsepower of 180 PS. This car soon became an icon in the automobile market. The two-tone design added decency and class to this car. Its fuel consumption was a bit more than the previous cars at 10.9 liters/100km. So, it wasn't as fuel-efficient as you may have expected it to be. This was one simple drawback. Other than that, there was nothing we could point fingers at. It seems like this car was way ahead of its time.
